How to Make a Statement with Necklaces

Edit: updated to include links to necklaces

As much as I adore clothes, I just might adore accessories a teensy weensy bit more. Accessories elevate the most humdrum outfit to something special. While earrings were my accessory of choice for a long time (mostly when I had super-short hair), I’ve really been into necklaces lately. So I thought I’d do a little tutorial on how to layer up your necklaces for maximum impact.

Now for the next question: where do you find all these pieces?   My current faves for jewelry are Kate Spade,  Stella & Dot and J.Crew (including the Outlet).  Banana Republic, Ann Taylor and Loft are also good sources. If you’re hunting a specific piece, such as this discontinued Stella & Dot Charlotte necklace pictured below, try eBay. There are some excellent deals floating around out there by Stella & Dot stylists looking to get rid of inventory.  There are also some stellar deals on J.Crew jewels on eBay too.

The best way to get started is to pull out all of your jewelry and start playing around with different combinations. Experiment with different necklines on your tops.

Doesn’t hurt to have a handy assistant, either. Although mine tends to have a slightly, um, special idea of how to wear them.

Are you layering your jewelry these days? Who are your go-tos for awesome jewels?
