Garnish Party Supplies

Party Planner Extraordinaire Rachelle told me about Garnish, one of her go-tos for unique, simple and stylish party supplies. I picked up a few items from them, and it was all I could do to not buy up everything!

Kraft paper to-go containers

with pretty bakery twine to wrap it all up

Wood Berry Boxes

Wood Paper Serving Cones

And look at the wood dishes! The shape is so elegant.

Wooden flatware

I like their blog too – they do a great job of showing unexpected ways of using their simple items to make it all look pulled together and chic. Can’t wait to see what else they come up with!

Sneak Peek: Peter Pan Invitations

Got the invitations out and into the mail today for Jude’s Peter Pan party at the end of the month!

I shot this photo against dark green felt, but the felt didn’t show up. I’m planning on cutting up the felt into small leaves to sew onto Jude’s Peter Pan costume pants.

I love the way these turned out. My original concept was something sketchy and hand-drawn in feel, and dramatic like a vintage movie poster or a simple book cover — and I feel like these answer those demands perfectly.  One of my favorite things is the Peter Pan hat that we got Jude at Disneyland this past summer. He’s so stinkin’ cute in it with that jaunty red feather – it’s the perfect symbol of Peter Pan.

So I knew that it was going to be the right image when I was doing sketches of it the other night and Jude saw it and shrieked, “My Peter Pan party!!! That’s my party!”  Bingo.

The hat sketch and matching text is paired with Mrs Eaves, a simple yet pretty font that looks so bookish to me. It reminds me of old-fashioned book typography.

The envelopes are Paper Source’s kraft paper envelopes and the return address labels are also their printable circle labels in white. The envelopes and invitations are extra-large, adding to their dramatic quality.

The labels come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are perfect for return address labels, decorations, you name it.  These are the 2 1/4″ circular stickers. I love that you can get them in any of Paper Source’s signature colors – there’s not an ugly one in the bunch. Would somebody please order some invitations from me in the new Peacock blue color so I can get some of it???  :)

Can’t wait for the big day!

Party Planning: Peter Pan Birthday

Jude’s birthday is swiftly approaching and I have been collecting inspiration photos as I try to visualize the kind of party I want to do. I should probably call my friend Rachelle, party thrower extraordinaire. As usual, I want a fun, quirky, handmade party that is not so … character-y.

Peter Pan is one of my favorites, and is hands-down, Jude’s favorite. We watch the movie over and over again, and we also read the book practically every night (well, the simplified Disney version – not the full-on J.M. Barrie). The original Disney movie was styled by the extremely talented Mary Blair, the genius behind many of the classic Disney movies including Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, as well as the Small World attractions and other artwork around the Disney parks. Her art is so stylistically recognizable – beautiful saturated color, stylized people, 2-dimensional illustrations. I love them.

And this is how these sketches translated into imagery for the film – Mermaid Lagoon

What’s not to love about this story? The possibilities are endless — mermaids, pirates, indians, lost boys dressed in little fur outfits, and of course flying British children. I can’t wait.

Here are some more inspiration photos –
Pirate’s brew – how fun are these in the burlap?

I love these red felt feathers. I may have to make some of these.

I also like these stripey bags – they remind me of the sail on the pirate ship.

I definitely want to decorate our tree out front to be like the Lost Boys’ tree where they lived with Peter Pan. If the weather is amenable, we’ll try to do the party outside.

I also need to order some of these pre-cut felt leaves to decorate Jude’s costume.

Whew! I’m overwhelmed a little bit, but I think it’s going to be fun. I also want to make a teepee out of a leftover cardboard box we have in the garage. That would be a fun little addition to the yard!

Canaan’s Baby Shower

On Saturday, I was delighted to help host a baby shower for a girlfriend of mine. Canaan’s baby is due in September, and we had such fun working with her color scheme. She’s doing her nursery in yellow and grey (so chic!) and so it just turned out that I inherited a gorgeous yellow tulipiere from a friend – et voila!  A perfect centerpiece!

We are still gnoshing on yummy cupcakes. They were DELISH! And the punch recipe that I found is one of my new favorites. I’m thinking I need to make it again. I made it with: Izze Grapefruit sparkling juice (in addition to the bottles of Peach Izzes that I had sitting out – with yellow straws, of course!), white grape & peach juice, sweetened lime juice, and big slices of lemons and pink grapefruits. Divine.

Wyatt & Friends

Oh man, what a crazy weekend! I’ve got enough blogging material for days with all the nuttiness around here.

On Sunday, we got to attend sweet little Wyatt’s 2nd birthday. You’ll remember the train invitations –

Rachelle – Wyatt’s mommy – threw a fantastic party. She is so inspiring. And Jude was positively enthralled. I swear he was more excited about going to the “Thomas Train Party!” than Disneyland.

Look at this adorable balloon wreath Rachelle made. I LOVE this. Her details were impeccable.

Rachelle also hired this guy who has a real live train! The kids went nuts!

I designed the favor tags – inside were an engineer’s hat and a train whistle!

Oh man, was it hot. Luckily we had lots of ice cold water (fresh from Sodor Springs! hee hee) with labels also designed by moi. We did two different versions.

Also some fun matching tags for the food and beverages.

Rachelle, we had such a fun time! Thank you for letting us be a part of Wyatt’s special day!
