Thank you, Design Mom!

Gabrielle Blair of Design Mom may be the nicest person on the internet. No, really – it’s true. Her style of writing is immediately endearing, and she always has the best picks of not only kid-related picks but also an excellent eye for all things design. So I was floored and thrilled to pieces when she asked me to be a featured Home Tour over at Cafe Mom. UM YES! And would you like me to send you a box of cupcakes too?! Because I would!

Anyway, all that to say, thank you again, Gabrielle! I remain one of your biggest fans!

p.s. – Be sure to check out one of my favorite parts of Design Mom – the pregnancy and birth stories. When Gabrielle was pregnant with her sixth little one, she invited bloggers to submit their own stories. I was stunned – there were so many amazing, well-written stories. They will move you to tears. As an adoptee, one of my favorite stories was from an anonymous birth mom who gave up her child for adoption. Moving and incredibly powerful, it was one of the best (in my opinion) of the entire series. Check it out! And bring your Kleenex.

A Conversation on Cool

I hopscotched over to A Conversation on Cool the other day and I am really loving it. What is style, after all? A gut feeling?

Especially this uber-glam photo of Jackie (pre-O) and JFK.

Oh, forgot to add

I forgot to mention the other day that if you click on any of the images in the sliding bar at the top of this main page, as well as on the “About Me” section and Design Studio page, you can then see a full-size image. This is particularly great on the Design Studio page because it opens up to show the entire project. You can either click the arrows to go left or right, or you can hit the left or right buttons on your keyboard.

A bouquet of freshly shaved pencils

Isn’t that how the line goes in “You’ve Got Mail”? About how wonderful a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils is …

I shot a few photos the other night, trying to get motivated to redo my main website, as well as redesigning a new blog header. I’ve been wanting to shoot some new photos of colored pencils, etc., and these were a few outtakes from what I got of my Caran-d’Ache pencils.

My post about updating my website, etc. – as well as Kathleen’s post the other day along the same lines – got me thinking and working over the past few days. I took down my site at RachelShingleton.com and I’m putting up just a small placeholder in the meantime with contact info & a link to this blog. As of right this second, it’s not yet live, but it should be within a day or so. (Nope! Live now!) I wanted to at least have something up that I wasn’t totally embarrassed of, and the old site was, well, sad. I didn’t feel confident when handing out my URL when meeting with clients. It was fine a few years ago when I had originally designed it, but like most other creatives, I tend to have a little bit of design ADD and it just wasn’t me anymore. I like to switch things up too much to stay true to any one thing for too long.
