Happy 4th Birthday, Jude

IMG_3591 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Where did four years go?

I tend to guage the amount of time passing by relating it to college.  It took four years to finish college (ermm, actually five for me), and that seemed like quite the accomplishment.  So when I realized it had been (gulp) 12 years since I graduated high school, I thought, “I could have gone to college 3 times by now.”

And now my baby is four and in that span I could have gotten another college degree.  Maybe it’s just me, but that length of time is just so monumental!  How he has grown – and how Simon & I have grown, too!  What did we do before Jude? we ask ourselves.

Saturday was the actual day of his birthday.  We celebrated by lunching at Whole Foods and letting him spend his birthday money from his Nonnie at the toy store.

In love with all the Tolix at Whole Foods.

Oh, random photo from Thursday night at the church fall festival: Jude in his Halloween costume. Captain Hook!Ahoy mateys. It's captain hook Jude!

Then on Saturday we had the party here at our house with the family.

And then there’s me — good grief, you would’ve thought they were pajamas for ME! Ha!

So after being fully sugared and celebrated, the sweet birthday boy was exhausted.  This photo is actually from yesterday at naptime when I walked into check on him. He was passed out, clutching his legos in hand!

Sound asleep for naptime, clutching his birthday Legos.

Let’s Go Bananas!

I’m late in getting a post up today, but I wanted to show you the latest invitation set I just wrapped up.

Carter contacted me about doing a monkey-themed party for her one-year-old Thomas.  Carter has an insane sense of style and we quickly hit it off.  I’m always happy when new clients become new friends. I’m happy to show the final product of our collaboration!

The invitations were actually double-sided and I somehow didn’t get a photo of that.  We did the back of them in the blue and curry chevron pattern with the monkey in the center, peeking out of the envelope when you opened it.

I’m madly in love with the curry-colored envelopes. MADLY.

We also did 3 different sets of cupcake toppers – I can’t decide, but I think the bananas were my favorites.

Also included were (not pictured) water bottle labels, a mini bunting for the cake, and then the happy birthday bunting banner shown below.

I plan on putting a variation of these up in the shop when we return from France – be looking for them in mid-June!

Birthday Recap

A special story today – a recap of a birthday surprise!

When your husband comes home on a Sunday evening and tells you to pack your bags because you’re not staying there tonight, it’s probably a good indicator of your marriage as to how you react.  Just kidding. :)  In my case, I literally squealed because I knew Simon had something good up his sleeve. And oh, it was so so good.

After dropping Jude off at my parents’ and making numerous guesses as to the final destination, we found ourselves at the insanely gorgeous and historic Skirvin Hotel.  For most of my life, the poor Skirvin sat sad and neglected, completely boarded up.  Only within the last ten years has it been brought back to its former glory, and glorious it is indeed.

Architecturally stunning, the room we got was an enormous suite, complete with ginormous living room and equally large bedroom.

The details are so lavish – these are the elevator banks and original letter drop box. Look at that cloverleaf design. Gorgeous.

What birthday is complete without cake, I ask you?  Pinkitzel is my favorite cupcake in town.

Yes. I had two. It was my birthday, ok?

All in all, a spectacularly memorable weekend.  I love surprises and I love Simon for knowing just what would make my day feel special.  We luxuriated in bed til 10:30am and had a leisurely coffee break at Starbucks before heading back into reality.  But wait, did I show you my final surprise? Oh boy!

Yup, Simon – you win Husband of the Year!  LOVE YOU!

Cool Stuff: Happy Birthday platter

I absolutely love this platter. I’ve seen several different versions of this that say “You Are Special” or a similar message. Useful for serving meals on for your child’s birthday dinner or maybe just for a special day, I like the idea of having a special plate that only gets used. It’s the little things like that that create special memories for years to come and gives kiddos something to look forward to.

As if they don’t look forward to the presents and cake enough.  :)

Happy Birthday platter at Fish’s Eddy. $9.
