Long Hair: to cut or not to cut?

Long hair: to cut or not to cut? www.pencilshavingsstudio.com

Are you ever in the mood for a change? Since having the baby, I’d been feeling the itch to cut my hair. Maybe it’s being  postpartum with extra pounds to lose (that won’t go away quickly!) and looking for something new or maybe it was wearing my hair in a topknot every single day. I realized that long hair isn’t necessarily a style; it’s just so darn easy to do nothing with if you’re too busy/lazy/bored to fix it. But I decided that it was time to bite the bullet. You may remember my post on how to survive growing out your hair – it’s one of the most popular posts ever here, if you can believe it. I’ve had short hair for most of my life, but in the past few years have really enjoyed longer locks and really resisted cutting it off. Growing your hair out is such hard work. But when you’ve finally stopped fixing your hair and wearing a hat most days, it means something’s gotta give.

I have to say, I’m loving the finished product! Although i’ll have to go back in a couple of weeks to have my color touched up – you can’t tell in these images due to cropping (HA) that my roots are REALLLLLL dark. I didn’t have time for anything other than a cut this time around thanks to Mr. Snoozypants there who decided to wake up.

My favorite tool when figuring out hair stylist “speak” is Pinterest. A picture is worth a thousand words, especially when it comes to your hair, is it not? How many of us have gone in and asked for a trim and come away with a chop?  I take my iPad Mini with me to the salon and chat with my stylist about different images on my hair Pinterest board: what will work – and maybe more importantly – not work with my hair texture, face shape, and lifestyle. (Oh, and want to know what my stylist’s number-one most requested look is lately? It’s this pin!) And 9 times out of 10, I’m thrilled with the result.

So there you have it – we’ve come full circle from the days of growing out my hair. But that’s the real fun of it – it never stays the same and change is always inevitable!
