How to Rock a Blazer

My most favorite piece that I reach for time and time again is the blazer. Nothing dresses up the most basic tshirt and jeans like a preppy blazer. And there has never been a better time to find such a wide selection than now. While I tend to prefer navy, I’m really drawn to all the bright colors right now and I’m thinking I’m going to invest in another more colorful option for spring. But if you’re looking to invest in only one piece, stick with navy; it is ridiculously versatile. My alltime favorite blazer is the Schoolboy by J.Crew; it has the perfect slightly shrunken fit so it doesn’t look too frumpy or boxy when paired with skirts or dresses. Feminine perfection. Hint: check out the J.Crew Outlet for the exact same cut at a lower price point.

My personal style is all about casual glam. I want to wear a slim pair of jeans with a burnout vneck tee, ballet flats, a blazer and really fabulous over-the-top earrings.  Or instead of the earrings, ropes of pearls and gold chains. But then I might turn around and pair that same blazer with a maxi dress to dress it up.

Here’s a handy little flow chart to how I’d style these pieces with my favorite navy blazer.

Blazer

from top to bottom, left to right: blazer // grey hoodie // white tee // green mariner stripe // green jeans // pleated skirt // scallop mini skirt // skinny dark wash jeans

Of course I can’t wrap this thing up without showing you some of the most colorful blazers out there for spring!

Bottom row: cobalt blazer // stripe blazer // green blazer

How ’bout you? Are you rockin’ a blazer these days? What do you like to pair with it?

I hadn’t thought about the blazer over the hoodie — GENIUS! (And I’m also springing for that pink J. Crew blazer — we can be twinsies.)

Susan, I ended up grabbing a pale blue one at the outlet. The bright colors were fun, but I need them to go on sale for me to rationalize it. Plus, I think the yellow or blue will work better for me. I wish that pink were less Barbie and more coral.

So fun! I actually JUST got my first blazer about a month ago (not sure why it took me so long) and am excited to try out these looks, especially the one with the grey hoodie and jeans!
